“Seek Fair Treatment for Sri Lanka through the UN and UNHRC Process” – a letter to Nikki Haley

“Sri Lanka has been harassed by the US and her western allies for defeating the Tamil Tiger terrorists described as the most brutal terror group in the world by the FBI.”

SINHALAYA News Agency revealed the letter sent by Mahinda Gunasekera in Toronto representing peace loving sri lankans, to Nikki Haley, the newly appointed USA Ambassador to the United Nations.

Dear Governor Nikki Haley,

I am writing to congratulate you on your high appointment as the US Ambassador to the United Nations. I am sure that all Sri Lankans would join me in expressing their wholehearted joy and best wishes for a very successful term in office which will pave the way for easing tensions and bring the world closer together in a new era of peace and prosperity for all.

My special request to you is to review US policies towards Sri Lanka, as the former Secretary of State, Ms. Hilary Clinton who was helped financially by Sri Lankan Tamils calling themselves “Tamils for Clinton”, took a hostile position towards Sri Lanka which militarily ended over 32 years of brutal terrorism carried out by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) banned by the USA in 1997 and designated an international terrorist group as per UN Security Council Resolution Number 1373 of September 2001.

The group known as “Tamils for Clinton” based in the USA were providing funds and other material support to the Tamil Tiger terrorists in violation of both US and UNSC regulations, which enabled the LTTE to militarily confront the Sri Lankan state with a land army of over 30,000 armed men and underage children, a naval force and a mini-air force, along with suicide cadres wearing body packs of explosives, suicide boats loaded with explosives which were used for ramming naval vessels of the state.

This group was the first to adopt human suicide bombs to cause widespread carnage. They also killed India’s former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi and Sri Lanka’s President, Ranasinghe Premadasa. It has also been established that the Tamil Tigers transferred the suicide techniques to Al-Qaeda including the suicide vest which is used for holding the C4 or TNT explosives.

The Tamil Tigers thrust a war on Sri Lanka in 2006 expecting to break up the island state and establish a separate state called “Eelam” exclusively for the Tamil minority community numbering about 10% in the north and east of Sri Lanka encompassing 1/3rd of the land area and 2/3rd of the coastal belt of the island, while more than half the Tamils lived outside this region in mixed ethnic surroundings. Sri Lanka defeated the Tamil Tigers in a just war, and were also able to rescue around 300,000 Tamil civilians who were being held as a ‘human shield’.

Hilary Clinton and the Obama administration have brought several resolutions against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC claiming war crimes had been committed, whereas internationally acclaimed legal experts such as Prof. Dixon of the USA, and Prof. Nice and Sir Desmond de Silva of the UK, and the former Commander of the British SAS after studying the military operation which ended on May 19, 2009, have exonerated Sri Lanka’s armed forces and have cleared them of all baseless charges of war crimes and violation of international humanitarian law.

Sri Lanka has been harassed by the US and her western allies for defeating the Tamil Tiger terrorists described as the most brutal terror group in the world by the FBI.

They are using a report commissioned by the UN Secretary General, Ban ki-Moon for his personal guidance, in which the panelists headed by Marzuki Darussman looked at input from one side of the conflict submitted by Tamils to conclude that there were ‘credible allegations’ of war crimes, which data they recommended to be locked away for 20 years. Sri Lanka is being incriminated by these one sided inquiries and bogus videos prepared by the supporters of the Tamil Tigers which were broadcast by UK’s Channel 4 TV station.

I trust you would review the US stand and policies aimed at benefiting the Tamil separatist groups that still seek the break up of the island state by forcing a federal structure on the tiny island state (1/16 the size of Ontario), to serve as a stepping stone to the division of the island which will result in further violence down the road as experienced in the case of India.

With best regards,
Mahinda Gunasekera
